How To Add Text to a Curve in Carveco
Overview
Adding text along a curve is a great way to create decorative designs like arched signs or badges in Carveco. If you’re unable to activate the "on a curve" option, it's likely due to a hidden text constraint. This tutorial explains how to disable constraints and apply text to any vector path.
Step 1: Draw or Select a Curve
Start with a curve (such as an arc or ellipse) that you want the text to follow.
Step 2: Open the Text Tool
- Click the Text tool from the design toolbar.
- Start typing your desired text — e.g., your name or company name.
Problem: “On a Curve” Option Doesn’t Appear
If the text doesn't snap to the curve or the “on a curve” option is missing, it's usually because the text is being constrained to a box.
Check for Constraints:
- In the Text tool, look for the Method dropdown.
- If it says Limit by Box, then your text is confined within a defined area.
- Enable Show Constraints to visualize the bounding box.
Tip: Constrained text resizes automatically to fit inside the box — which is why it may appear very small or won't follow the curve.
Step 3: Switch to “None” Method
- Change the Method to None instead of “Limit by Box”.
- The On a Curve option will now be available.
Step 4: Apply Text to the Curve
- With the text selected, click on the curve.
- The text will snap to the curve path and adjust accordingly.
You can continue to edit spacing, alignment, or curve orientation from the text properties panel.
Summary
Summary:
To place text on a curve in Carveco, disable box constraints by setting the text method to None. This unlocks the On a Curve feature, letting your text follow any vector path. Always check your text method if the option doesn't appear.
