How To Nudge Objects Precisely in Carveco

Overview

Moving objects in small increments — or "nudging" — is useful when you're positioning artwork or aligning elements in your design. In Carveco, nudging is controlled using the arrow keys on your keyboard. This tutorial shows how to use and customize nudge behavior.

Basic Nudge

  1. Select an object (vector, bitmap, or relief).
  2. Press any of the arrow keys (↑ ↓ ← →) to nudge the selection.

By default, this moves the object by a small preset distance.

Setting a Fixed Nudge Distance

  1. Hold Alt on your keyboard and press any arrow key.
  2. A window appears with nudge options.
  3. Enable Use Fixed Nudge Distance.
  4. Enter your desired value — e.g. 0.25 (for ¼ inch).
  5. Click OK.

Now, each time you press an arrow key, the selection will move exactly by the specified amount.

Tip: Use fixed nudge distances for consistent alignment, spacing elements evenly, or precise object movement without using the mouse.

Turning Nudge Off

  1. Hold Alt and press an arrow key again.
  2. In the dialog box, uncheck Use Fixed Nudge Distance.
  3. Click OK to restore default behavior.

Summary

Summary:
Use the arrow keys to move selected items in small steps. For greater control, press Alt + Arrow to set a fixed nudge distance such as ¼ inch. This makes precise positioning quick and repeatable, especially useful for layout and sign design work.
