How To Resize a Model Without Affecting Artwork in Carveco
Overview
If you've created a model that’s larger than necessary for your design, resizing it without affecting your artwork is important. This tutorial shows two ways to resize your model in Carveco — and how to avoid unintentionally scaling your vectors or toolpaths.
Option 1: Set Model Size (Before Artwork)
- Go to Model → Set Size.
- Change the height or width — aspect ratio will be maintained by default.
- Click OK.
This resizes the model and any artwork within it proportionally. Use this method before you begin designing.
Option 2: Crop the Model to Fit the Artwork
- Draw a closed vector around your design (e.g. a rectangle).
- Go to Model → Crop.
- This will trim the model to fit the selected vector, keeping artwork size intact.
After cropping, the yellow background (model space) is removed while keeping the vector and relief unchanged.

After cropping, go to Toolpaths → Setup Material and click OK. This updates the material block size to match your cropped model dimensions.
Set a New Origin Point
- Go to Model → Set Position.
- Ensure X and Y values are set to
0. - Select either Bottom Left Pixel or Center Pixel, then click OK.
This will move the origin to your desired location within the resized model.
Recalculate Toolpaths
If toolpaths were created before resizing, they’ll still refer to the original coordinates. You must recalculate them:
- Right-click each toolpath in the Toolpath List.
- Select Calculate.
As you do this, the paths will update to the correct position relative to your resized model.
Summary
To resize a model without affecting your artwork, use the Crop function with a closed vector instead of Set Size. Update your material, reset the origin as needed, and don’t forget to recalculate toolpaths to reflect the new layout.
