How To Measure Artwork and Model Dimensions in Carveco

Overview

In Carveco, measuring the size of your model or specific artwork elements like text or vectors is simple once you know where to look. This tutorial walks you through three key techniques to quickly determine dimensions of your design elements.

1. Viewing the Model Size

  1. Look under the Project tray and click on the name of your model.
  2. This will display the model size — the full working area of your relief.
Note: The model size doesn’t necessarily reflect the size of the actual artwork, especially if the artwork occupies only part of the workspace.

2. Enabling Rulers in the Workspace

  1. Switch to the 2D View.
  2. Go to View → Show Rulers.
  3. Rulers will appear along the edge of the viewport to help gauge size visually.

You can also switch to the 3D View and use the same command to enable rulers there.

Tip: Rulers are a quick visual reference, but not ideal for precise measurement. Use the Measure Tool for accuracy.

3. Using the Measure Tool

  1. Go to Model → Measure.
  2. Click two points on your model or vector to measure the distance between them.
  3. The precise measurement (e.g. 0.275") appears in the panel on the right.

4. Getting Dimensions from Coordinates

  1. Select a vector or group of vectors, such as a text object.
  2. Look at the bottom-right corner of the Carveco interface.
  3. Here, you'll see:
    • X/Y/Z coordinates of the selection
    • Calculated Width and Height

This method is especially helpful for getting the total bounding box of grouped text or artwork.

Summary

Summary:
To measure your design accurately in Carveco, start by checking the model size via the project tray. Use rulers for a visual reference, the Measure Tool for point-to-point distances, and inspect the coordinate bar to find width and height of selected vectors. These tools together ensure you always know your artwork's exact dimensions.
