Windows Documents folder is redirected to OneDrive

Carveco does not independently choose the location used for its relief and vector clipart libraries. It asks Windows for the current Documents folder, and Windows is presently reporting your OneDrive Documents folder. Reinstalling Carveco therefore does not change the location. Microsoft documents this as the Windows “Known Folder” system, which applications use to obtain locations such as Documents.

To return Documents to the standard local location, please follow these steps:

  1. Make a backup of any important files currently held in both your local and OneDrive Documents folders.
  2. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the Windows notification area, then select Help & Settings → Settings.
  3. Open Sync and backup, then select Manage backup.
  4. Turn off backup for Documents.
  5. When prompted, choose Keep the files only on my PC. This is important, as the other option may leave the files only in OneDrive.
  6. Open File Explorer, right-click Documents under This PC, and select Properties.
  7. Open the Location tab and select Restore Default. The location should become:

    • C:\Users\<your Windows username>\Documents

  8. Select Apply. If Windows asks whether you want to move the existing files to the new location, select Yes.
  9. Restart Windows, then launch Carveco again.

Carveco should now use the local Documents folder for its supporting content. Existing Carveco files that remain inside OneDrive will not necessarily move automatically, so please check both locations before removing anything.

If the Location tab is unavailable, or Documents continues to point to OneDrive after restarting, please send us a screenshot showing:

  • OneDrive → Sync and backup → Manage backup
  • Documents → Properties
  • The folder opened when you press Windows key + R, enter shell:personal, and select OK
