Carveco Tutorial: Trimming Reliefs by Colour

In this tutorial, we take a look at an advanced trimming method available in Carveco Maker Plus—using colour to trim reliefs. This provides more flexibility when working with multi-colour artwork or imported images.

🔹 Traditional Vector Trimming

As covered in earlier tutorials, you can trim reliefs using vectors:

  • Zero Inside Vector – Keeps content inside the vector.
  • Zero Outside Vector – Removes content outside the vector.

🔹 Trimming by Colour (Maker Plus)

Carveco Maker Plus introduces Zero Under Colour and Keep Under Colour tools, allowing you to work directly with colours in your relief.

Using Zero Under Colour

  1. Select your target colour from the palette (e.g., purple or green).
  2. Switch to Material View and hide the zero plane for clarity.
  3. Click the Zero Under Colour button to remove the relief under that colour.

Using Keep Under Colour

  1. Select the desired colour again.
  2. Click Keep Under Colour to remove everything else except the selected colour area.

💡 Tips

  • Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) to revert if you remove the wrong area.
  • This tool is especially useful for complex images where vectors are difficult to draw precisely.
  • Toggle between Draw Zero Plane and Material View for better visibility.

✔️ Key Takeaways

  • Zero Under Colour removes content beneath selected colours.
  • Keep Under Colour isolates and preserves only the selected colour area.
  • This method offers an alternative to vector-based trimming for complex images.
