Carveco Tutorial: Resolution
Resolution plays a key role when working with reliefs in Carveco Maker and Maker Plus. It affects both the quality of your models and the results you see during simulation.
🔹 What is Resolution?
Resolution defines how many pixels your model contains. The higher the number of pixels, the sharper and more detailed your 3D relief will be. For example:
- 2000 x 2000 pixels: High-quality reliefs and accurate detail.
- 200 x 200 pixels: Low-quality, pixelated results, especially noticeable in reliefs and simulations.
🔹 Choosing the Right Resolution
- For 2D vector work, resolution has no real impact—vectors are independent of pixels.
- For relief modeling and simulation, use a higher resolution to get crisp, clear visuals.
- If you’re using a lower-spec computer, reduce the resolution slightly to improve performance.
🔹 Adjusting Resolution When Creating a New Model
- Go to File > New.
- Set the resolution manually (e.g., 2000 x 2000 pixels).
- Click OK to create your model.
🔹 Adjusting Resolution in an Existing Model
- Go to Model > Adjust Resolution.
- Choose a higher resolution (e.g., 2000 x 2000 or more).
- Click OK to apply.
- Note: This action cannot be undone. Reliefs already created at lower resolution will need to be redone for better quality.
🔹 Visual Impact Example
When importing a grayscale image (e.g., Pegasus), you’ll clearly see pixelation at low resolution. Raising the resolution makes the same relief appear much crisper and more accurate.
🔹 Simulation Quality
Even for 2D toolpaths, resolution affects simulation quality:
- Low resolution causes jagged edges, especially on curves.
- This does not affect the actual CNC output—it only impacts the simulation view.
💡 Tip
Use 2000 x 2000 resolution or higher for 3D relief work and simulation. Always check the simulation at higher resolution before exporting toolpaths.
✔️ Key Takeaways
- High resolution = cleaner, sharper reliefs.
- Low resolution = pixelated and blocky results.
- 2D vectors are unaffected by resolution.
- Simulation appearance improves with higher resolution.
- Use Model > Adjust Resolution to make changes later.
