Carveco Tutorial: Creating Textures with the Texture Toolpath
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use the Texture Toolpath in Carveco Maker Plus to generate dynamic textures over a 2D area using simple or custom patterns. This feature allows for highly creative engraving styles without modeling a 3D relief.
🔹 Getting Started with a Blank Model
- Start a new model (e.g., 12" x 12") and go to Toolpaths > Create Texture Toolpath.
- Select a tool, such as a 1/4" Ball Nose, and click Default Values from Tool to auto-fill initial settings.
- Set material thickness (e.g., 0.5") and click Calculate to preview the default texture.
🔹 Customizing Texture Patterns
- Change the pattern type to a Selected Vector for curved or stylized effects.
- Create a vector (e.g., a wave or star) and assign it as the pattern vector.
- Use aspect ratio settings to control pattern stretching across the surface.
🔹 Controlling Texture Depth
- Adjust Minimum and Maximum Depth to define how deeply the tool carves into the material.
- Preview how deeper cuts change the appearance and feel of the texture.
🔹 Modifying Flow and Density
- Use Angle to rotate the texture direction (e.g., 45°).
- Set Step Over (Y-axis) and Spacing (X-axis) to control texture density.
- Lower values produce tighter, more detailed textures; higher values create looser patterns.
🔹 Depth Profile Variations
- Switch between Recessed Curve and Flat profiles depending on the look you want.
- You can also use a Selected Vector as a custom depth profile.
🔹 Advanced Tips
- Use shapes like stars or waves as pattern vectors for creative effects.
- Adjust pattern length for consistent size across the surface (e.g., 2" x 2").
- Every calculation can produce a unique randomized result for organic textures.
