Carveco Tutorial: Toolpath Templates & Batch Calculation
Learn how to automate your workflow in Carveco Maker Plus using toolpath templates and batch calculation. This method is ideal for repeating jobs like plaques, signs, or templated engravings.
🔹 Organise with Layers
- Assign each design element (e.g. text, grooves, borders) to its own layer.
- Example:
Text,Groove,Outline. - This allows Carveco to associate toolpaths by name instead of selected vectors.
🔹 Configure Toolpaths for Layer Association
- When creating a toolpath, change Vector Association from “Selected Vectors” to a named layer.
- This ensures future vector imports on the same layer will be picked up automatically.
🔹 Exporting Your Template
- Once your toolpaths are assigned and tested, go to Toolpaths > Save Toolpath Template.
- Save the file with a name like
plaque.tpt.
🔹 Importing into a New Project
- In a new model, import your vectors using Import with Layers Preserved.
- Go to Toolpaths > Load Toolpath Template and select the saved file.
- Toolpaths will appear in red (uncalculated) but will already be assigned by layer.
🔹 Batch Calculate Toolpaths
- Click the Batch Calculate Toolpaths icon in the Toolpaths panel.
- Select toolpaths to process, then click Start.
- Calculated toolpaths will turn white. Any that fail will be listed as “Failed”.
🔹 Material Setup Warning
- If batch calculation fails, check Toolpaths > Set Material.
- You must define material thickness and datum before toolpaths will calculate.
🔹 Real-World Use
- Use Block Copy/Rotate to replicate your design across a full sheet.
- Edit vectors like names after placement, then apply your template.
- Simulate all toolpaths for a visual confirmation of the results.
✔️ Key Takeaways
- Use toolpath templates to automate repetitive CNC jobs.
- Always assign toolpaths to named layers for reuse.
- Use batch calculate to instantly generate all toolpaths.
- Preserve vector layers when importing DXFs for reliable results.
- Define your material setup before calculating toolpaths.
