Carveco Maker: Importing Images
In this tutorial, we’ll walk through the different ways you can import images into Carveco Maker. Whether you’re tracing artwork or working with reference graphics, the import process is simple and flexible.
Method 1: Drag and Drop
- Create a new model (e.g. 12" x 12").
- Drag an image file (e.g. from your desktop) directly into the software.
- Carveco will open an import dialog and maintain the aspect ratio of the image.
If you input a height (e.g. 12"), the width adjusts automatically to preserve proportions. Once confirmed, the image will appear within the model space.
Not worried about exact sizing? You can create vectors around the image, copy them, and paste them into a new model as needed.
Managing Bitmap Layers
Imported images appear in the Bitmaps layer section. Use the lightbulb icon to toggle visibility.
Method 2: File Open
- Go to File > Open.
- Select an image file (e.g.
Sparrow.png). - Configure size settings in the dialog box and click OK.
Method 3: Right-Click Import
- Create a new model (e.g. 12" x 12").
- Right-click on the Bitmaps section in the Layers panel and select Import.
- Choose an image file and click Open.
Images will import at their original pixel size by default, which may not match your model.
Resizing with Import Options
- If needed, delete the image and re-import.
- Choose a scaling option at the bottom of the import dialog:
- No Scaling – Use original size
- Fit – Scale image to fit inside the model
- Fill – Fill the model, possibly cropping
- Stretch – Fills model, but distorts proportions (not recommended)
For best results, select Fit to scale the image neatly within the model boundaries.
Working with Multiple Images
You can import multiple images and toggle them using the layer panel. For example:
- Import "Sparrow" and "Sun" images using the same right-click Import method.
- Switch visibility using the bitmap layer names.
Supported Image Formats
Carveco supports various file types. When importing, you'll see options for:
- JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg)
