Importing Vector Files into Carveco Maker

In this tutorial, we’ll explore how to import various vector file formats into Carveco Maker. Whether you're working with AutoCAD drawings or design files from illustration tools, mastering file import is essential to an efficient workflow.

🔹 Importing via the Vector Menu

  • Go to Vector > Import.
  • Select a compatible format (DXF, EPS, AI, PDF, etc.).
  • Choose your file and click Open.
  • Enable Center in Model and Automatically Rejoin Vectors (recommended for DXF files).
  • Choose the correct unit—millimeters or inches.
  • Click OK to import.

🔹 Alternative Import Methods

  • Right-Click Import: Right-click on the Vectors section of the Project Tree and choose Import.
  • Drag and Drop: Simply drag supported vector files into the 2D or 3D view.

✔️ Hints, Tips & Tricks

  • Center in Model: Avoid off-screen or misaligned artwork by always centering on import.
  • Rejoin Vectors: Save time with automatic vector joining—especially for DXFs.
  • Units Check: Confirm unit consistency to prevent oversized or shrunken imports.
  • Preserve Layers: Use this when importing from AutoCAD to keep vector elements grouped logically.
  • Isolate Layers: Right-click lightbulbs in the Project Tree to hide or show layers quickly.

🚀 Advanced Techniques

  • Use File > Open: Instead of importing, use File > Open to auto-create a model sized to the vector file—ideal for engineering drawings.
  • Layer Management: Import only what you need by toggling visibility on individual layers.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

  • Vectors Too Large: Use File > Open instead of import to match model size automatically.
  • Missing Geometry: Ensure all layers are visible in the Project Tree.
  • Disconnected Vectors: If “Auto-Rejoin” was missed, use Join Vectors manually with a small tolerance (e.g., 0.001").

📂 Supported Vector File Types

Carveco Maker supports the following vector file types:

  • DXF – Drawing Exchange Format (AutoCAD standard)
  • AI – Adobe Illustrator files
  • EPS – Encapsulated PostScript
  • PDF – Vector-based PDF only
  • SVG – Scalable Vector Graphics
  • EMF/WMF – Windows vector metafiles
  • DWG – Native AutoCAD files (limited support)

Layer data and vector fidelity will be preserved wherever possible.
