Carveco: Aligning Vectors Tutorial

In this tutorial, we'll walk through how to align vectors within your design. Whether it's a single object or multiple grouped objects, Carveco makes alignment quick and accurate.

Step 1: Aligning Single Vectors to the Center of the Model

  • Select your vector (e.g., a circle or rectangle).
  • Go to Vector > Align from the top menu.
  • Choose Center in Model or simply press F9 on your keyboard.
  • This places the selected object perfectly at the center of your model.

Step 2: Aligning One Object to Another

  • Select the object you want to move first.
  • Hold Shift and select the object you want to align to.
  • Go to Vector > Align and pick your desired alignment option:
    • Center
    • Top
    • Bottom
    • Left
    • Right
    • Vertical Center
    • Horizontal Center

Remember: The first vector you select will be the one that moves; the second remains stationary.

Step 3: Aligning Groups of Vectors

  • Select the entire group or multiple objects you want to align.
  • Use the same alignment tools to organize them as needed.

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

  • Use F9 for rapid center alignment — it's a huge time-saver!
  • When aligning, double-check your selection order: first object = moves; second object = stays.
  • To align an object into a corner (e.g., bottom-left), first align it horizontally, then vertically.
  • Grouping complex shapes before aligning helps maintain design consistency.

Advanced Techniques

  • Offset Alignments: Use transformation tools to offset vectors after center alignment to position them precisely.
  • Batch Alignment: Select multiple vectors and align them all at once to a central shape for clean layouts.
  • Vector Snap Settings: Adjust your snap options for more intuitive alignment when working manually.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing moves? Ensure you selected the objects in the correct order: first = moving, second = anchor.
  • Center not correct? Check if the object has ungrouped vectors or open shapes that affect the center point.
  • Alignment greyed out? Select at least one vector first — no selection means no alignment tools.
