Paste Along a Curve

The Paste Along a Curve tool allows you to automatically copy selected objects along a specified curve or vector. This is perfect for creating repeating patterns along complex paths.

Step 1: Select Your Object and Curve

  • Select the object you wish to copy (e.g., a heart shape).
  • Hold Shift and select the curve or vector you want to paste along.
  • Go to the top menu and click Paste Along a Curve.

Step 2: Configure Your Settings

  • Specify the Number of Copies – Enter the number of copies you would like to create.
  • Specify Spacing Distance – Instead of number, define the spacing between each copy.
  • Make Spacing Even – Ensures spacing is evenly distributed across the entire curve.

Step 3: Adjust Orientation and Alignment

  • Rotate to Align – By default, copies rotate to align with the curve. This is useful for smooth, natural placement.
  • Disable Rotation – If you want each copy upright (not rotated along the curve), uncheck the rotate option (available on more advanced panels).
  • Align to Start, Center or End – You can set whether your copies are aligned based on the start, center, or end of the curve.

Tips & Tricks

  • For tight curves, reduce the number of copies or decrease spacing for a cleaner look.
  • Use circles or polylines as your drive vectors for predictable, even results.
  • Keep the original objects simple to avoid excessive distortion on tight curves.
  • If pasting along a wavy or complex shape, pre-simplify your curve using vector smoothing tools.

Wrapping Text Around a Curve

To wrap text along a curve:

  • Create your text using the Create Vector Text tool.
  • Draw your desired curve (e.g., circle or freeform line).
  • Select the text first, then the curve, and use the Text on a Curve function.

You can choose between aligning your text Above Line, Below Line, or along the Baseline.

Additional Hint:

  • Keep a copy of the original curve hidden on a separate layer. If you need to edit the curve later, you can quickly update the text alignment or paste objects again without redrawing it!

With Paste Along a Curve and Text on a Curve, you can produce professional-looking patterns, decorations, banners, and signage with ease!
