Carveco Tutorial: Vector Clipping Tool
The Vector Clipping Tool is an automated trim tool that allows you to trim or delete multiple vectors based on a selected cutting shape. It’s perfect for cleaning up designs or creating boundaries with precision.
🔹 Step 1: Open the Vector Clipping Tool
- Click the Vector Clipping icon from the bottom of the left toolbar.
🔹 Step 2: Select Cutting & Target Vectors
- Select the cutting vector first (e.g., a square or boundary shape).
- Then Shift + click all the vectors you want to clip (e.g., stars, shapes, etc.).
🔹 Step 3: Choose Clipping Direction
- Trim Inside – Keeps everything inside the boundary and trims off what’s outside.
- Trim Outside – Keeps everything outside and trims what’s inside the boundary.
- Delete – Removes any vector segments that intersect with the boundary shape.
- Keep – Retains objects untouched if they don’t overlap with the boundary.
🔹 Step 4: Resize or Trim Overlapping Vectors
- Toggle the Resize Overlapping Vectors option to let Carveco trim to the boundary automatically.
🔹 Example: Trim Inside a Shape
- Select the square as the cutting vector.
- Select all overlapping star vectors.
- Choose Trim Inside and click Clip Vectors.
- All parts of the stars outside the square are removed.
🔹 Example: Use Delete or Keep
- Delete: Removes only the vectors that intersect the boundary.
- Keep: Does nothing unless some objects lie fully outside or inside.
- This is great for selectively trimming shapes based on their position.
The Vector Clipping Tool is a fast and flexible way to trim multiple vectors at once—whether you're cleaning up overlaps or trimming to a defined boundary.
✔️ Key Takeaways
- Use Trim Inside or Trim Outside to control which areas remain.
- Delete removes overlapping vector segments only.
- Keep preserves untouched shapes outside the clipping boundary.
- Select a cutting vector first, then Shift+Click to select all targets.
- The Resize Overlapping Vectors option trims to boundary edges automatically.
