Carveco Maker: Understanding and Drawing Vectors

In Carveco, vectors are the backbone of your design work. Vectors define shapes, outlines, and paths for machining. Whether you're designing for precision cutting or creative engraving, mastering vector tools will significantly improve your workflow.

Working in 2D vs. 3D View

  • New models open in the 3D View by default.
  • For drawing and editing, switch to 2D View for a more stable workspace.
  • If your view rotates accidentally, click “View Top” to reset.

Using the Polyline Tool

  • Select Create Polyline from the left-hand toolbar.
  • Click to place points and build your shape.
  • Right-click to finish the line.
  • Enable Smooth Polylines for curves, or disable for sharp corners.

You can also use the input panel on the right for precise coordinates and angles.

Snapping to Points

Carveco includes smart snapping tools that help you align vectors:

  • Snap to endpoints, midpoints, or model center.
  • Green dot = joined vector.
  • Red dot = open vector, which can cause toolpath errors.

Drawing Rectangles

  • Use the Rectangle Tool to click and drag a shape.
  • Edit dimensions directly (e.g. 9" × 6") in the panel on the right.
  • Adjust corner radius with the corner handles.
  • Move or rotate the rectangle using center controls or numeric input.

Creating Circles and Ellipses

  • Hold-click the circle icon to open the flyout menu.
  • Select Create Circle or Create Ellipse.
  • Click and drag to draw, or enter exact dimensions manually.
  • Create with Arcs for smoother nodes and easier editing.

Polygons and Stars

  • Select Create Polygon or Create Star.
  • Click and drag to draw your shape.
  • Adjust number of sides or points in the right-hand panel.
  • Use input values to control size, position, and symmetry.

Creating Arcs

  • Use the Create Arc tool for curved shapes.
  • Click to place the start and end points, then move the mouse to define curvature.
  • Select from multiple arc creation modes depending on your needs.

✔️ Key Takeaways

  • Vectors are required for creating toolpaths and defining geometry.
  • Use Polyline for custom shapes and enable snapping for accuracy.
  • Joined vectors (green dots) are ideal for machining — avoid open shapes.
  • Carveco includes tools for creating rectangles, circles, stars, and arcs with precision.
  • Use the input panel for numerical control over size and position.
