Sculpting on hidden layers
Can anyone explain to me a legitimate situation in which there is an advantage to being able to sculpt on a layer that is turned off? I have had to rework more artwork due to accidentally being on a layer that was not active and damaging it more than all other reasons combined! if there is a legitimate reason for this to exist can we add a toggle to disable it?
Thanks

Mark,
Is the area you want to sculpt on highlighted? for example you have 3 relief layers and you want to sculpt on layer 2 so you shut off the lights on layer one but is still highlighted even though you do not see it you will sculpt on it because that is the chosen one (the words, not the light bulbs).
Hoping that I made this clear.

Yes exactly. Why does this exist? I have accidentally sculpted on the wrong layer countless times. I don't understand why if a layer is "turned off" it isn't locked.
It's been a difficulty since the Artcam days when they first introduced layers, you just have to double check and say dirty words when you don't.
There are a lot of things I would love to have that would speed up the file process but my suggestions, I guess are not that important, maybe they would add too much complexity to the software, like I would like to have the angled plane tool added to the cookie cutter, so you wouldn't have to paste down a model onto each and every different layer, would also love to have added to the angled plane tool the ability to make concave or convex curves, with these there are so many cool things you could do when you're modeling.
anyway enough of my wished list
have a great day.

Maybe Carveco should have Suggestions or a wishlist as a category?
H Mark Weeden,
You're posting to the Feature Discussion topic and this is viewed by our Development team so that they can consider proposed new features and enhancements.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Hi Michael Sherve,
With a lapsed maintenance plan, you do not have access to new features and enhancements which are introduced within Carveco software. The Development team would have logged and considered any and all enhancements which you had proposed prior to your maintenance plan lapsing, and any firm decision to implement them would be disclosed in the Feature Discussion topic or in the Release Notes published to our company website.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
I Know I have a lapsed maintenance plan, I got too frustrated after putting in my request and it not being implemented I just could not continue, I just assumed it would not nor will ever happen so I did not want to become an online rear end by condemning you all, I have looked at all the notes with what you all have put into carveco and what I desire just isn't there.
Take care
mike
Thank you Support,
I would still like to know what is the advantage of being able to sculpt on a relief layer that is turned off and can we implement a way to lock a relief layer that is turned off?
Best regards.
You're welcome, Mark Weeden.
There are two important states to consider where layers are concerned: active and selected. In the Project tree, an active layer's name is emphasized in yellow while a selected layer's name has a shaded background.
The Development team are now aware of your reported usability issue, and we'll provide you with an update on any progress towards any enhancements which can potentially be made in respect to avoiding mishaps when working with layers.
Thanks for your understanding and patience.
