Change tool start point / tool change point

I've set the tool start point / tool change point / end point to be too far back on my machine for me to reach to do tool changes.  For the life of me I can't recall which tutorial covered this and have spent the last hour scrubbing through them looking for where to change this setting.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

  • What are you doing? Are you cutting out a plaque, or v-groving, or panels for a cabinet, or???????

All starting points for me are at the top left corner, I put it there right at the start of the file. If you need to change it now all you do is at the top in the menu bar find the word that is spelled "MODEL" the first choice is the one you want "SET SIZE" here you will be given the gift of changing where you want "origin" that's your starting point.

Hope you don't mind my smarty pants, sort of feel naughty (mischievous) tonight, gotten in trouble from my wife because of it tonight HAHAHAHA evil grin.

  • I’m good on setting/changing the origin. Once I’ve created any design, then created the tool path(s), and view the simulation, the dark blue line shows the CNC path will begin at x=20”, y=20” and go back there for any tool changes and also when the job is complete. I know I set that x/y value somewhere, but I can’t recall where.

  • That sounds like you set a safe position. On the controller. Do you remember setting a G28.1.
I just used this to set an address where my machine would raise the spindle and place it centered left and right and a little back from the front edge. Work surface and access to the spindle.

  • I finally located this setting in Carveco.  In any of the 2D toolpaths, it's under Options, Safe Z and Home coordinates.  I must have set it during one of the tutorials and it appears to stay set even when loading or creating new models, which had me thinking it would be in Carveco's preferences.

    Thanks all!

  • Thank you, Sean!

I've been having an issue where I would do a tool change, and my Z would only go as high as the safe Z, which made it really hard to get the bits out. To fix this, I'd open the G-code, search for the tool change message, and change the Z coordinate right before it. This is a lot easier.

Turns out you can click on the toolpath and change these settings in the parameter box as well without having to open the edit toolpath box.
