Performance

Hi

Would like a opinion from more experienced users, I noticed that when building a model if I have lots of components that are not pasted down in my work area that the program becomes sluggish or slower, To work around I have  pasted and stored on layers to improve the sluggish situation. The reason I have lots of un- pasted components is I want to adjust heights and fades between them as I build the model and don't want to be switching back and forth between layers. My thought is and just looking for confirmation is the layers help in reducing the amount of open data being dealt with in my work area am I correct. or is there other work arounds in building models..

Thanks Bill

  • When they introduced layers in artcam I didn't think much of them but as time moved on I saw how wonderful they are, like you can add different elements just to see how it'll work out without screwing up all your work, you can adjust different layers models so they all work together (this is soo cool) you can fix a model on a different layer so it lays just right with a conflicting one, Oh yes layers are the best.

now if only they would add to the angled plane tool so we can make convex or concave bubbles and to adjust the height on different corners while the clipart is still blue then we would have a fantastic software.

  • Hi Mike

I figured out the answer to my question above. I had been keeping alot of components blue so I could go back and forth adjusting height and angles but with so much data onscreen it was slowing down my work, so I did go to layers but for each component I made a relief boundary before moving to a single  layer, that way I could select that component and adjust, Saved me making a ton of layers. The real pain was constantly reopening the project tree as it would close every time I used another function. I agree with you comment about the angled plane tool as I am always trying to adjust background heights in selected areas of a model

  • Bill,

There are a few improvements that I have a very strong desire to have and I have voiced them, one would be an improvement to the angled plane tool to add curvature in height and another would be adding 4 points of height adjustment to the cookie cutter, both of these would add for me speed and quality to my designing.

You know as well as I that a lot of our designing has to get the model look just right so the customer (no matter who they may be) is pleased. Right now I use various ways to accomplish what I am after but those 2 simple improvements would be so appreciated .

Here's where I discuss with a video or two, sometimes with me I don't have the right words so maybe I don't come out clearly (very frustrating for me) (I think Barry had a hard time understanding my desire).https://support.carveco.com/hc/en-gb/community/posts/360043160471-Relief-Cookie-Cutter-and-Angled-Plane-tool-enhancements

When the angled plane tool first came out I didn't think or use it much that changed when I started to use it, man this is a great tool, now if we could only get it to add a bubble using 3, maybe 4 point far away from your chosen closed vector. there would be so many cool new designs we could dream up.
