Remove spikes automatically
A great tool to be added is a "remove spikes" tool. It would scan the whole relief, or inside a vector boundary, and would remove unwanted spikes. Sensitivity (spike size) should be adjustable. I believe that it would make the workflow much faster, especially when working with cliparts that get cut and pasted again and again.

Have you tried to use shape editor, just grab the vector around it and use merge high, make sure you don't have any hight added to it, this seems to remove most spikes.
