Guitar CNC - neck pocket question

Im trying to carve the pocket on a guitar project im working on. the problem is that the bottom of the pocket needs to be at a 3 degree slope. Whenever I go to insert it into the application, the bottom of the pocket flattens. I am modeling in AutoCAD, and importing as a .dwg.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • Michael,

I had some 3 degree undercuts here resonantly, I had to go to my saw sharpener and get a bit ground to that (did a beautiful job). In all programs that use a 3 axis machine are going to do cause all under cut to vanish, the best way other than spending a bunch of money and purchasing a 5 axis machine is to have someone grind a bit for you, since your work isn't that tall or too involved.

I gathered that you are wanting an under-cut, might be wrong but this is the way I read your statement.

  • I am looking at having the bottom of the pocket sloped at a 3degree angle. I was hoping to do it with a ball nose bit. seems doable, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

  • Mike,

I just noticed you don't have the full version, tell you what send me a file and I'll do the down slope, I'll send it back after I'm done for you to verify, I'll even enclose a small concave for you to play with, make sure I can know the depth along with it and the direction you wish it to go.. A 3 degree down slope isn't much though.
