clarification needed for relief carving

if I was to do a rough machine relief carve say feed at  100 in/min and plunge say 50 in/min with a 1/4 end mill does carveco use the lowest number of the two for carving or a finished carve with a 1/4 round at say feed at 125 in/min and plunge at say 70 in/min  Does carveco look at the rough and finish different as far as feed and plunge goes. I was told on a relief carve  carveco looks at the lowest number and sets its speed to that number

If so then my settings for a rough and finished carve should be the same for both feed and plunge

I can't find any info on this

Any thoughts

  • Charlie,

Never thought of it, I just run it with the feeds that I have put on my control software, it seems to cut fine, I get no stalls or broken end mills, my finishes come out good plus I'm pretty busy once I get that hummer running, I'll try to pay closer attention to it. You could opt to increase it just to see, though I wouldn't do much above the recommenced feed and speeds that you can get from those whom you purchase your bits from.
