Setting Offset Distance

Hello,

I am new to Carveco Maker and have a simple first project.  I am trying to draw a rectangle that is 4"x10" inches with an offset inter rectangle of 0.5" inches.  Very simple right? But, every time I use the offset feature it shows a 1"inch offset even when I manually enter 0.5".  I have the ruler feature and the graph feature turned on.  I have also turned it off just to see if that has something to do with it.  Additionally, after manually entering the offset, when I close it and come back to the offset it has changed back to 1".  Any idea what I am doing wrong?  I have watched numerous videos and followed them closely and nothing is working.

Thanks, John

  • Hi John,

This is strange indeed. It seems you're doing nothing wrong.. Would you mind sharing a screenshot or two?

  • Hi John Rudio,

Please confirm what corner radius you've specified when drawing your 4" x 10" rectangle.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

  • Hey John,

Try the envelope distortion tool, hit the letter "T" that'll bring it up (should). then put the dimensions in that you want, what the offset is doing is .5 on all sides. If you want the original rectangle then copy and paste the baby in.

  • Hi John Rudio,

We have created a new model with a Width (X) of 6" and a Height (Y) of 12" in Carveco Maker.

Using the Create Rectangle tool, we have drawn a rectangle with a Width of 4", a Height of 10" and a Corner radius of 1" in that model.

With that rectangle selected, we have used the Offset Vectors tool to create an offset vector with an Offset distance of 0.5", an Inwards/left direction, and Radiused corners, as shown below:

Using the Measuring tool (select the Model > Measure Tool menu option), we can confirm that the distance between the original rectangle and the offset is 0.5", as shown below:

You can use the following temporary download link to retrieve the OffsetTest.art file featured in the above screenshots: https://we.tl/t-jqIv2qw8IS

Please confirm whether these are the results you were expecting to achieve.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
