Using AI to Generate Reliefs in Carveco

Introduction

The Carveco suite of products now includes powerful AI tools for creating 3D reliefs from simple text or images. In this tutorial, we’ll walk through how to use the Generate with Text feature to create reliefs, refine them with depth and detail sliders, and save them to your clipart library.

Generating Reliefs from Text

To begin, go to the left-hand toolbar and select Generate with AI. You’ll be taken to a page with two options:

  • Generate with Text — turn a prompt into a relief
  • Generate with Image — upload an image to convert

This tutorial focuses on generating reliefs from text.

Using the Prompt Generator

Click Generate with Text and type in your prompt (e.g., “a high detail carving of a nomad's face”), or use Inspire Me to auto-fill a suggestion.

Click Generate Image and four AI-generated options will appear. If none suit your needs, adjust the prompt and try again.

You can click any preview to enlarge it. When satisfied, click Generate Relief to create the 3D model.

Controlling Depth, Detail & Zero Plane

Once in the 3D view, adjust the model using the following controls:

  • Depth: Controls the overall relief thickness
  • Detail: Adds or removes surface detail
  • Zero Plane: Flattens or clears background elements

This stage is artistic — measurements are not yet critical. Focus on getting the visual result you like before exporting or editing further.

Creating Another Model

You don’t need to restart the program. Just go to File → Generate with AI and repeat the process.

You can generate another image, apply depth/detail settings, and save it to your clipart. This allows you to build compositions from multiple AI reliefs quickly.

Saving and Opening Your Relief

It is important to save your AI Generated relief when formed. To do this, there are two options:

Saving into the Clipart Library

Saving your relief into the clipart library gives you felxibilty in various ways:

  • It is easy to access and incorporate into future models and designs
  • It can be resized in a new model
  • It can be added and placed alongside other reliefs, for an interesting design, that is truly customised

Saving Your Relief As A Model

The second option, which can be used alongside as Saving as a Clipart, is to save the relief as a model which can be done once you select generate image. Once in the software, click on the save icon, to save your image as an .art file.

Opening Your File

Opeining your file depends on how it was saved. If you saved it as a clipart, then this image will be available in the clipart library. If you saved the model as an .art file, then you can open this by selecting 'Open' and then clicking on the file, in its saved location.

Refining Your Relief

Once your relief is placed, try additional adjustments:

  • Use Smooth Relief to even out rough surfaces
  • Use Fade Relief to blend or level surfaces (e.g., flatten a dog's snout)
  • Use Trimming Vectors to remove unwanted aspects and zero back to the base plane.
