Elina, Thanks for your response, at least I didn't do something wrong! Maybe the colors can retained when in Lock Mode in a future update. Jim

Well, I think I figured it out! If the layer is locked, then the color reverts to black, it will only reflect the chosen color if the layer is unlocked. I locked the layers so I wouldn't accidental...
