Vector Layer colors

I assigned a different color to each vector layer to make it more discernable. When I opened up the .art file, the colors are still assigned to each vector layer as shown below, but all of the vectors in the drawing are now black. I opened another file and the colors work on that one, so it is not a computer issue. Is there some setting that makes the color settings "neutralized"? I tried changing the layers to a new color but to no avail  Any suggestions?

  • Well, I think I figured it out! If the layer is locked, then the color reverts to black, it will only reflect the chosen color if the layer is unlocked. I locked the layers so I wouldn't accidentally make any changes, but then I lose the color.  Any way the color can be kept while it is locked?

  • Have you tried to lock the vectors?

Assign them (move them) to a layer, lock them (so they will not move when you high-light them. Of course when you do that you can't move them or screw with the nodes (unless you unlock them).

The only time I change the colors of a layer is when I want to copy a vector or 2, it's totally awesome to do it that way, when you lock the vectors you can do the same, but I am usually getting rather picky when I am copying a vector I do it to change some part of it.

  • Hi James,

Firstly, make sure that the right vectors belong to the right layers (in case they're all still in Default) but I assume this is not the issue..

As you said, and it's true, when a layer is locked then its vectors become grey. Colors are still kept but only when the layer is unlocked. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to keep the color while it's locked...

An option you have is to change that grey color to something else (yet the same for all locked layers). Go to Edit -> Options under Drawing colors..

    Hope that helped a bit!

  • Elina,

     Thanks, I forgot of that.

I reread my statement and I don't think I answered.

  • Elina,

Thanks for your response, at least I didn't do something wrong! Maybe the colors can retained when in Lock Mode in a future update.
