Would be nice to be able to either scale the model OR resize the canvas. There are work-rounds it seems, but they are not ideal.

That is still a work around, instead of simple, basic functionality. I hope the developers are working on these kind of things.

I agree, this would be a very useful feature. This shouldn't require multiple steps.
