Having trouble getting Carveco to permit depth on ball ended cutter
Hello, I am new to Carveco Maker and have just started using it to create an inlay. The technique is specific to very narrow ball-ended cutters. I can specify the cutter in my toolpath but cannot get it to cut below 0.5mm even though my cut depth was set to 5mm. Any help would be appreciated.
I have included a picture showing the 0.5mm already cut as part of the negative image detail. This technique is going to use the 4.2° angle of the cutter to create space for the positive part of the inlay.

Are you using the "area clear" toolpath to do this? Where are you defining your finish depth for the toolpath?
Why use a ball nose if your inlaying into the pocket your creating?
Does your version of Carveco not have the inlay toolpath option?
cheers!

Hello. Thanks for the response. I am using the vbit pathway because the ball engraver head is very small at 1mm in diameter. The technique I want to use is detailed here: https://youtu.be/aWqHqqDtp5c?t=10
The idea is that the very narrow angle of the ball ended cutter will make for a better fitting inlay by using the slope of the cutter to cut the sides of the inlay negative and leave them very steep.
The inlay option is definitely available on my Carveco Maker version but it states that it applies a radius to sharp points.
Hi Jeff Cable,
Please watch the following demonstration video available from the Carveco Training portal: V-Bit Inlays
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Thanks for the advice. I have already watched the demonstration video several times. I guess that I will have to go through it again. My interest for this enquiry was to see if the narrow angle of the ball ended cutter (4.2°) would make for a better fit, as was discussed in the demonstration video to which I linked.
Regards,
Jeff
