backups
Hi all hope you have good holidays. I have a problem in that I did not backup stuff I did for holiday rush. Now out of no were I have lost everything in carveco folder projects empty reliefs empty component library empty. I completely restored everything in the trash just in case I have no problem deleting the junk again. I restored my last back up copy but the recent stuff is gone. I know there is an auto backup as I see it flash on the carveco screen when I am working. Where is this backup stored??Maybe my recent projects and models are there.
Yes I know its dumb and stupid of me not to make backups daily is there any hope??

Evonne,
That backup you're referring to in carveco is just for a crash, in case you have one where the software stops responding it'll save you a file, and (I have been able to direct it to save where I want (cool), the software doesn't save the files you work on by default (would be cool, but sometimes I would have so many files, ugg) You might rt click your windows files (where you store your work and have windows show you where the last files are put (if you saved them) I have different folders where I save my files sometimes I save my files to the wrong folder, so I use the approach I just outlined to you to find them. there are different ways to do this (I think) butt. I have found files in my download folder, even in my wifes photos, so again the approach I use does a good job for me, don't know why it does it (saving all over, kind of frustrates since I stated I want all files to be save in model directory in the options.
When I X out of carveco it does prompt me if I want to save regardless if I am closing the program or just starting a new model.

Hi Evonne, If you still have your toolpaths (would be on the mills computer, possibly in the trash folder at this point) there used to be a tool that would convert toolpaths back to models available for use with ArtCAM. I would contact support and ask if this tool is still available and will it work with Carvco generated toolpaths. I expect it would as I doubt the toolpath feature code in Carvco is any different from that found in AC. If this works for you please let us know (also if for some reason it does not also please let us know why). Thank you
As to backups,,,,,,you really want to automate the backup process. I have a program called Macrium Reflect and it automatically images my entire drive to a portable drive each day. For individual files I use a program called Genie Timeline and it takes snapshots of my files each time i hit save and stores them on the portable drive. Both programs are excellent and worth every penny. They have saved my rear many times. I hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
PS: Dillon should know about the conversion tool. It was not free but it certainly is worth looking into.
Hi Everyone I recovered all but 3 projects. 1 was from an stl I modified for a client. The worst is a top cut in metal mold and the ring it fits. Just text and layout but if I have to change anything I have to do it all over again. 2 other small projects I am not worried about. Thanks to my back up. From now on I will back up everyday actually I copy and paste to my external hard drive. Years ago I had an auto backup system and when I needed to restore it could not read the files it created. so now copy and paste. Just found windows 10 has a backup that copies files that can be opened just like copy and past. so now my computer backs up my files every hour.
Evonne, I am curious as to how you recovered your files.
Hi Barry I did have a back but from before the holidays. so I only lost 4 projects 1 was an stl I modified so that is not much of an issue 2 simple projects. But the big one was a ring with a metal mold top that I did. It was completed. Metal mold and ring with rubber mold. As long as my client dose not need to make changes it a non issue. The panic was when I saw all of carveco files, documents videos photos all empty and I have no clue what caused it. had a backup of everything but for those 4 projects.
