The current sculping brushes either add or remove with a circular profile. Therefore it is very easy to end up with lumps while sculpting and very hard to get them out.

Do you mean you want the shape of the brush changed or you want a flat rather than curved brush. If the latter you can control this as in the attached pic.
OMG. I can't believe all this time I didn't know. As you can see below, when "smoothness" is turned down all the way, there is a repitition of the brush. I see now though that it's pretty easy to smooth out.
I wish it was called "profile" as I must have thought from the beginning that "smoothness" was for smoothing out what you see below (which it does do also).
