Locking nodes in envelope relief distortion tool
This is something that has been asked for before but it has not been implemented so I guess it will difficult to add to the program. When working in Envelope Relief Distortion moving one node often means that other un-selected nodes are moved as well. This means you have to work opposite ends of the model in order to compensate for the unwanted movement. I would like to be able to either lock certain nodes so that they do not move regardless of what I do to other nodes or have all nodes locked except those that have been selected for movement.

Hi Barry, can you create screen capture video of what your seeing with the unselected nodes moving with the selected one.
Distortion tool works correct for me, only the selected node/nodes and its handle bars move, no other nodes,
Are you sure its not a graphics issue you are seeing?
Gary
I will be happy to do this. I assume I can attach the video by using "Insert Image" from the top of the comment box. Is there a preferred capture utility? I have FastStone Capture, but I remember something about some other program being preferred over in the Autodesk ArtCAM Forum.
I look forward to your reply.
Not sure if Autodesk's Screencast application can be used; there is also Jing.
I followed your instructions (I think) but I still don't get any issues.
Gary
Actually, I misspoke, its not the nodes that are moving, its the opposite side of the model as shown in the attached before and after screen grabs.
What format of video will this forum accept?
That appears to have distorted mathematically correct, as to the two handle bar nodes you selected.
I guess I'm not sure what you want the final shape to look like after distortion. You do know that for more control you can insert nodes by hovering over the vector and using the I keyboard shortcut for insert?

Here is a YouTube video of the problem:

I do not want it to distort so as to create a gap, I just want to pull the top. I have tried adding nodes but it does not make a diff. Once you switch to cookie cutter and envelope distortion the extra nodes disappear
BTW, handles move oppose each other, the main (corner?) nodes may stay in the same place but not the handles. The more I think of it its a handles problem. If there were so way to tell specific handles not to move I think that would solve the problem.
Ahh, now I understand what you are saying.
I will have a better look later when I get time, but being able to hold points in that scenario diffidently makes sense
Gary
Thank you Gary, much appreciated.
I would love for that, I have gone to cutting my models in half, choosing the Relief Cookie Cutter tool, and then getting rather frustrated when I only wanted a part to be different. It's like the height red handle; would love to have that thing lock too.

Thanks for the support on this one Mike,,,,,,anyone else?

To avoid further misunderstandings, this is a Help Centre with an associated community; not a forum.
As explained here, we cannot integrate the Autodesk Screencast application with this Help Centre and its community; it is proprietary.
A video is not an image, so you cannot use the formatting toolbar's Insert Image button when posting to insert a video:
If you have video footage you want to include when posting, paste the full URL into the body text. If you paste a URL associated with YouTube, Vimeo or Wistia, the link will resolve as a thumbnail when posted.
