2D Rest Machining

Hi Group,

Is there a Rest Machining function on 2D Profiling? For example, if a bigger tool can't fully get into the detail when 2D Profiling, can the remaining areas/material be auto-selected to finish off?

There is in the Area Clearance toolpath, Adrian.  This will machine out the pocket with a larger tool and then just go into the smaller areas with the smaller tool.  You can also add many tools to this, and it will rest machine each tool so you can just have the really tiny tool pick out the corners for instance.

  • Hi Leighton,

Thank you for your reply. I am familiar with the Area Clearance toolpath, but I didn't realise it could pick out the details like this.

Do I still need to run a Profile after to clean up all the final edges?

Not a problem, Adrian. It's entirely up to you; if you leave the Final Tool Allowance at 0, the smaller tool will just pick out the corners. If you did want the smaller tool to run round the edge as a final pass, just enter a figure in Final Tool Allowance and that material will be left on for the smaller tool.
