SVG format vector import

I would love to be able to import SVG format vectors. While SVG “units” are not tied to any specific real world dimension, many programs default to 1 “unit” = 1mm and this would work, although the option to define scale at import would be a plus.

  • Hi Richard,

Our Support team will bring your suggestion to the attention of the Development team, and they will investigate what can be done to support the importing of vector artwork in SVG format in Carveco software.

On another note, please take the time to complete your profile, as documented in this article. We're confident that at least one other person named Richard will eventually join the community, and it will not be possible to tell one from another unless each of those people use their full name and a distinguishing photo or image in their profile.

Thanks in advance for your time and cooperation.

  • I note that in your page of feature comparison (https://carveco.com/carveco-software/feature-comparison/), at the bottom under "Carveco Supported File Types" you list SVG as a supported vector image file type.

I have not been able to actually import one. When I navigate to a folder containing several SVG files, none are visible in the import window, and it does not appear as one of the supported file types.

If it is a supported file type, how can I actually import or use an SVG?  I am tired of needing to use other software to convert supposedly supported files into actually supported files.

At present, you can export vectors from Carveco in SVG format, but you cannot import them in SVG format.

  • Then it is not really supported is it? Perhaps on your website any formats that are not both import/export  should be labeled with the usage limitations.

Obviously the programmers understand the format, if you know how to EXPORT it, how difficult will it be to add IMPORT?  It is widely used, and available vector format.

  • Been well over a year now.  Any updates on when we might see SVG import added?  I see you have this as a "planned" change, is there some reason that it is proving difficult?  I would think the PDF import you added would be tougher than SVG.

  • It has not been a year since our Development team committed to implement this functionality; when a suggestion or request is first made and discussed, no commitment and timescale is inferred as a great deal of planning has to be done first. The Development team are working on a multitude of projects concurrently, and these are broken into many separate tasks. This functionality is not a matter of difficulty (although it is far from trivial), but rather one of competing obligations and priorities. With that said, a significant portion of the work for SVG support is now complete and we expect to deliver something in the near future.

  • The Carveco 1.17 Update includes support for importing SVG files; please review the associated release notes.
