Carving a wing
Hi,
I have searched the help, and have ended up more confused than when I started. This is what I want to do:
I wish to carve a wing-half. That's it.
I have the wing profile exported from Sketchup as a DXF file. I can import this into Carveco as a vector file. I assumed I'd be able to simply extrude this so that I can carve it. But nothing is simple in life. The online help mentions menu items I don't have.
Anyone care to jump in and help me out?
Duncan

Lets see, you have the "maker" or the "maker plus"??
I have made models of feathers laid those in the shape of the wing profile then I used the 2 rail sweep to get my shape, if you don't have the full version of carveco then (sorry) you will have a very hard time making a model of a wing.

My bad. I was talking about an airplane wing. Apologies. And I'm using Carveco Maker
Version: 1.21
Does this help?
Basically - how does one extrude a shape?
Duncan
Hi Duncan Meyer,
Carveco Maker does not include relief creation tools; if you wanted to create a relief from your imported vector artwork using the Extrude tool, you'd need to purchase our flagship Carveco product. With that said, a reduced set of relief creation tools is included in our Carveco Maker+ product. For example, Shape Editor, Turn and Spin.
There are no separate variants of the Reference Help, which is included in all Carveco software products and displayed by selecting the Help > Reference Help menu option; please check for caveats at the bottom of a page in the Reference Help stating that a particular tool or feature is license-dependent.
If you're uncertain about whether or not a particular tool or feature is included in Carveco Maker, please refer to the Product Comparison page on our company website.
In addition, please refer to the Carveco Fundamentals training course available on our company website, as this was created with Carveco Maker and Carveco Maker+ users in mind.
If you have any further questions or requests, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks again for your time and consideration.
Just a suggestion to make the Carveco product a little better. I am not sure how much trouble it would be, but it would be a big help (especially for us newbies) if the Reference Help would indicate (at the top of the pages or maybe better yet in the index) which Carveco product(s) the information applies to. Does anyone agree?
Absolutely agree...
Ollie Snyder & Duncan Meyer,

Thanks for your time and cooperation.
Duncan,
I just read your post after I posted, sorry I didn't see it till now.
Tell you what, if you were to give me an idea of the shape (like put your dfx up) if I get some free time I could give 'er a try for you, then after I get it done I'll post a photo of the model if you like what I have done then I could send it back to you.

Hi Mike,
That is exceedingly generous of you.
I am actually trying to cut a wing strut out of Spruce. I've done the math, and it is WAY strong enough, so no need to use aluminium tubing.
Basically, base chord = 120mm, tip chord = 80mm. Length = 1100mm
The airfoil is a standard NACA 63(3)-018
Here is the DAT file.

PS I've uploaded the file twice - but can't see it. So either there are two copies of it, or none. Please let me know.
Hi Duncan Meyer,
If you want to share a file with Michael Sherve or any other Community member, please use the free WeTransfer service's Get transfer link option, and then post the generated link here once your file has been uploaded. That way, people can use the supplied link to retrieve your file.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
Aha! OK, here it is:

Duncan,
What is this .dat file, where does it com from, I'm sorry am a little thick at times, bring what you have into carveco, save it as an .art file then send it again if you don't mind.

There are several cheap or free programs out there specifically made for designing functional airfoils. Even NASA has some for download. Years ago I did a project using WinFoil for a customer. There's also DesignFoil. $40-50 gets you in and you can design a wing you know will work and export the geometry in a format you can pull into Carveco. Check them out.
