Crop relief

Hallo everyone,

I have a detail relief of a model that i would like to crop, isolate, export as .rlf file and use as tile to create a custom texture. However I can't seem to find a way to crop my relief.

I searched the database, the help and the forum but i can't find the answer.

Has anyone a solution or work-around for me?

Regards,

Rossella

  • Hi Rossella,

You might want to experiment with using the Relief Cookie Cutter tool.

Please refer to the following demonstration video: Relief Cookie Cutter

Thanks for your time and consideration.

  • Thank you for your kind replay, but cookie cutter does not allow me to export a .rfl file, does it? When using the tool "texture relief" i'm asked to open a rfl file.

  • Hi Rossella,

When using the Relief Cookie Cutter tool, you could paste the cut, floating relief area onto a specific relief layer (shown in the Project tree), and then export that relief layer as a Carveco Relief file (*.rlf). You could then select that Carveco Relief file (*.rlf) when using the Texture Relief tool.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

  • If I do that, it exports the whole layer, with the original dimensions of my model, and thus not with the dimensions of the detail that I want to isolate and tile. If I then try and use it in the Texture Relief, it will past the whole large layer, rather than my detail only.

  • Hi Rossella,

Please confirm whether you've tried creating a new model with the dimensions set to the size of the texture you want to create, importing the Carveco Relief file (*.rlf) exported from your original model into that new model and resizing it accordingly using the Transform tool, exporting the composite relief from that new model, and then using the resulting Carveco Relief file (*.rlf) in your original model in which you are intending to use the Texture Relief tool.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

  • My detail is 30x30mm, i have found only the following work-around to solve my problem: export it as a dmt file using the "create triangle mesh" tool. Importing it in a new model file with dimensions 30x30mm, then exporting this as rlf file and using it in the texture relief tool.

The "create triangle mesh" is the step where the details gets isolated. However i find this quite complicated, and i was hoping there would be a way to isolate a detail and directly export it as rlf file, without the intermediate triangle mesh step.

The way you describe seems similar to my work around, as you also have to create an apart model file in carveco with the right dimensions.
