New model all sculpted, man this took a long time

Got a new tree, was asked to make this then the customer changed their mind, they want a model of Mt. Rainer, well I was already stuck on this thing and had to see it through to completion, hahaha, well now on to the  Mt.

  • Really a very nice job Mike. Should be awesome as a finished piece.

I hate customers who do what was done to you. I had a discussion today with a customer who has now changed their design 3 times. I told her that I would do the changes she asked for today but if there was to be any further changes I would have to charge her a "Design Charge". She freaked. How dare I charge a design charge for something I have not even started to make yet. Right, the designs do themselves and whatever time and skill I had in creating them is minimal at best. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

  • I really enjoyed this, Mt Rainer will have to wait (hahahahahaha) I do like a challenge (I think the Mt will be a biggie) but all the sculpting I did I realized HOW bad I would really like some of the improvements I suggested The would have cut the work on this by 70%.

As far as design changes this customer has been fantastic for me, has always been great, I told him he got me started on this tree and I'm stuck on it, we both had a laugh and he said go for it so I enjoyed the work, I'll be getting on the other one he wants soon, so we both win. As for design changes those are hard to take at times, esp. when we get someone we don't know or trust to pay us (I see you got one of those, nasty) .Besides, I have too much to do sometimes (and this customer see's and knows it) so he's real kind about my working on completion with what ever I'm doing. Beside the fact I am always doing things just to fill my bank of files that I might use some day.

This is the first work I did that was all sculpting, its kind of tedious and my mind sort of had my tongue hanging out like I went mad (snicker). Sure do wish when we had the cookie-cutter working we had 4 areas that had up or down arrows, and also wish we had another option that we could do a bulge (an up or down, a convex or a concave) like the angled plane tool, this would have save a lot of time.

Barry this is the story of my life .

the concept that CAD is fast and really cheap is all to common these days .You have no idea how many people I have to educate and then they still insist on free changers.GRRRRRRRRRR

I now include a Extra CAD fee when I quote on a job .If it goes smooth I give them a discount at the end .

  • Mike that is a good idea, the trouble is sometimes the design can take a day or more then I am blown away at the time it takes, I can only imagine the customer at how that would send them sipping away real fast.

I do like the idea of an "extra cad fee". though.

We sometimes call it an aggravation fee

  • Been waiting for this photo for a few days, really weeks.

Depth of cut .262", took a lot of remodeling to get detail back and to view, in 6 inch the detail was great but the model had to be enlarged to 33 inches without depth, in other words the detail was wiped out, had to do a lot of sculpting and angled plane tool work (this here could have gone better had we had the addition I have asked for). But here she is.

  • Yea, the tree would have looked really good too, this mountain was so much work, didn't take into consideration what all would transpire in enlarging the model from a 1by6 to this size, didn't think I could do it, but it was very enjoyable, especially getting the thing done.

        Thanks Barry.
