Why does my Z cut air?

I'm new to CNC and Carvco Maker.

I am having an issue with my Z not coming down to cut the project. I tried to zero with my touch plate and also tried zeroing off the piece. I get the same results; the program runs but the Z levels off at .1998 and doesn't cut. I think I may have a setting wrong but not sure where. If someone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thank You

Bob

  • Hi Robert Brodman,

When you made the toolpath, did you notice where you get to select the bit you have an option to describe the thickness of your material? It's way down on the bottom and it needs to be correct, either that or you didn't choose to zero off the correct location, like you zeroed off the top (top offset) of the material (in the routers control software) but in the software you wanted off the bed (bottom offset) (I have never done either of these (serious huge grin). Your router needs the correct location. This is just my guess because I don't see what was done. The control software I use is kind of particular in this. but you said you tried both so it's probably in the toolpath selection you need to take a look.
