STL file import

Hi. When I import my STL file into the model, it comes in standing upright (vertical). Is there any way I can lay this down flat onto the model?

  • Hi George Megginson,

You can manipulate the imported STL file using the Paste 3D Model dialog; please watch the following demonstration video available from our Carveco Training portal: Importing 3D Models

Thanks for your time and consideration.

  • I watched the Importing 3D Models video but I still can not work it out. The Stl file I am importing is a statue and is standing upright and I need to lay it down flat, the video example is showing a column but it is already flat on the work plane.

  • Hi George Megginson,

Rather than trying to describe what you can see while working within Carveco Maker, please capture and share screenshots to illustrate. If you're not familiar with capturing screenshots, please review the following Microsoft support article: Use Snipping Tool to capture screenshots

After importing your STL file, please try: clicking the Paste 3D Model dialog's Centre button to reposition it relative to the zero plane, typing 90 in the Rotate model about an axis area's X box, and then clicking Apply.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

  • Thanks, the rotate model about an axis area's X box worked.
