Vector issues

Hi, I created a wedding band that is a size 14.  The design has eleven diamonds that are 1.6mm round.  I selected these stone vectors and exported them to the the desktop (both .svg and .eps).  I then created another wedding band a size 7 and imported the stone vectors and Carveco is shrinking them to 1.3mm.  I only found this out after casting both rings.  The diamonds fit into the size 14 ring but are too large for the size 7 ring.  So I went back to Carveco and repeated the export/import of vectors and this really is happening.  Both rings were created in the same project file.  And to further test, with the size 14 ring file open, I selected the vectors and copied them (ctrl+c).  I then opened the size 7 ring file and pasted (ctrl+v) and the vectors stayed true to size.  So now I have to again re-create the size 7 ring with with accurate vectors, mill the piece, cast, finish and set before Christmas.  Is this a bug?  Also, if what I described above is understandable, could someone try to duplicate the above scenario?  The screen shot has the imported vectors on top and the copy pasted vectors on the bottom. Thanks.

  • So I made a size 14 band and added (12) 1.6 mm round vectors and then exported them. I then made a size 7 band and imported the vectors and they were smaller (1.216 mm). I then went back to the size 14 band and imported the same vectors and they were a little smaller (1.546 mm) than the originals but not as small as in the size 7 band. Copy and paste brought the vectors in in the correct sizes.

  • Thanks John.  I guess this another issue with the jewelry section of Carveco.  I do hope this and the other issue I reported gets resolved.  It's a shame to pay for another year of maintenance and have to revert back to a previous version to use the program...

  • Hi Danny Barnes & John Bloom,

Please select the Help > About Carveco menu option to display the About box and confirm the version and build of Carveco you're working in. This is essential information which is always required for us to investigate further.

In addition, please select the Edit > Options menu option in your Carveco software to display the Options panel and confirm whether you have the Auto-resize vector artwork after import check box selected in the Options panel's File Import category of settings when importing your vectors in SVG and EPS format. If you do, please deselect the Auto-resize vector artwork after import check box, click Apply followed by Close, and then try importing your SVG and EPS files again.

Please confirm your results when replying in this topic.

Thanks for your time and cooperation.

  • Version: 1.24 Build: 2021-08-03-0950-3ff32da8

So deselecting the Auto-resize vector artwork after import check box fixed the issue. I guess you learn something new every day.

I have been using this program for about 25 years, and I guess that I have always copied and pasted vectors because I never noticed it before. I have always oversized my stone vectors a little to compensate for shrinkage.

Well thanks Carveco for the quick info and good luck Danny. I hope you get all you orders done smoothly.

    John

  • Hi Danny Barnes,

Many thanks for sharing your pair of screenshots. As requested, please deselect the Auto-resize vector artwork after import check box, click Apply followed by Close, and then try importing your SVG and EPS files again.

John Bloom has already confirmed that following these steps resolved the reported issue for him.

Thanks again for your time and cooperation.

  • Thanks John!  We seem to be using different builds...?  That did solve the issue for me too.  Also, I usually copy paste vectors as well but in this case I was making 2 identical bands just different sizes.  So when working on the gents band I exported the vectors to my desktop in order to be able to get them into the ladies band, never thinking they would not come in the correct size...is there a better way to do this?

I also, was going to check Artcam 2015r2 for this issue but have not had the time.
