Preview Feature: 3D Viewer

We've added the 3D Viewer as our second preview feature in the Carveco 1.13 release. Preview features are in-development and you can provide early feedback to help us improve them.

The 3D Viewer feature lets you export a design or simulation. Carveco creates a HTML file that contains the 3D models, material, lights and bitmap images from the 3D View.

Follow these steps to create a 3D HTML File:

1. From the start screen, click Preview Features.
2. Click Enable Feature next to 3D Viewer.
3. From the Menu bar, select View > Export View....
4. Click Save.
5. Verify that 3D HTML File is selected in the file selector.

Please let us know if you find this feature useful, if you have any suggestions for how we can improve it, or if you encounter any bugs while using it.

  • Good start on this, couple of things I have noticed;

    • There doesn't see to be the ability to pan. Zoom and rotate but no pan.
    • Funny spikes on rounded corners

Might be worth noting this particular 3D view is of a toolpath simulation, don't know if that would make a difference.

I think I've attached the file, not sure though.

  • Hi so what I have been reading (being the tech dyslexic dummy I am) we can no longer just take a jpg image to put on our websites. 2 this new feature will allow our customers to rotate the 3d image to see the whole thing. However making a much larger file to send via email to a customer. How with the customer click and view this on email or will they have to download it.

Also its says to back up important file before using this new feature. Not that backing up is a bad thing but if this new feature can cause problems why would I want to use it.

another suggestion YOUTUBE show us how these features and tools work.

  • Hi Evonne,

    Many thanks for your feedback.

If you want to capture a screenshot of the view and save it as an image file, you can use the Snip & Sketch tool in Windows 10.

All preview functionality is still in development, which invariably means that a bug or defect might be inadvertently introduced. We issue this advisory notice when making new functionality available to customers, just in case they encounter any unforeseen issues. We provide this community platform so that customers can report any such issues.

I expect we'll be sharing demonstration videos on this functionality in the near future, so please be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and check there for new content.

  • New feature is not very good.  Not everyone likes win 10.  Can only export in PDF and I get file corrupted message. So whomever is in charge: what's the point of removing a simple and very useful function and replacing it with one not so useful?

  • Hi Tom,

Tom Reardon wrote: "Can only export in PDF and I get file corrupted message."

If your only option is to export the view as a PDF file and you cannot see the option to export as a 3D HTML, then you have not yet enabled the preview feature. From the Start page, select Preview Features and ensure the Enable Feature check box is selected in the 3D Viewer section.

Regarding the "file corrupted message", please supply us with a screenshot when replying to support request #1843 so that we can investigate further.

Please note that Microsoft's support for Windows 7 ended on January 14, 2020. For this reason, we've suggested that all customers move to Windows 10, as documented here some time ago. Therefore, it is not a question of preference, but rather one of security and maintenance.

If you're not yet working in Windows 10, then you can use the Snipping Tool in Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to capture a screenshot of the view and save it as an image file.

  • Looks nicer than the pdf.

However, only can zoom in on the center so not very useful.

  • Hi All,

Some community members had asked about where the ability to save an image of the 3D View had gone when working in Carveco 1.13 and above. The Carveco 1.22 Update includes the ability to export images of the 3D View at your specified size when selecting the View > Export View menu option. For details, see the Release Notes page on our company website.
