rotary milling - controlling A start and stop

For the best look on flat-topped signet style rings we usually do a rotary milling, then run the flat top right on top. -But sometimes the A axis angle ends off zero. Rotating the tube makes the top off center. How can I prevent that?

To mill to the very back, I was taught to make my milling vector, then zoom in as far as I can go. I make the end just inside of the edge of the model. Then I go to the other end and do the same thing. Then I center the vector. I imagine that means the end and beginning of every rotary milling is just slightly off. -But you can't mill off the edge of the model.

Anyone have a fix for this?

Thanks!

  • if you have this problem ..

when the rotary is done cutting move the cutting tool in the Y direction to the edge of the top of the ring .Zero the tool and move it to the other side making sure you are pretty accurate as possible (use a loupe ) look at number on the Y axis and divide by 2 move the tool to  that location and then zero Y.. Cut the top of the ring and all will be fine ..Remember to re-zero Y after the signet  ring is cut ..
