rotary bed not straight

Hi every one I think the bed that holds my rotary is not straight.  when I mill near my chuck front and back are great. when I get near to my tailstock its off by about 1 mm. I am milling for jewellery so this is not good.

  • Hi Evonne, what mill are you using? Model Master mills were/are notorious for this sort of problem. I never use the tail stock on my MM mill. Is this a new problem?

  • Hi Barry its a new used machine with 4 axis. I have a old modelmaster  that I used to flip manually on flat bed. With this older modelmaster I was able to set up multiple pieces to cut both sides large slab of wax.

the newer machine cant do that can only cut 1 at a time near the chuck.

  • Hi Evonne, put an old cutter in your chuck and then try bringing the tail-stock to the tip of the cutter. Your point on the tail-stock should be dead on to the point of the cutter. If its not you will know that the tail-stock is out of alignment. I don't know how to true the tail-stock but you might try contacting the manufacturer of the mill and ask them for assistance. Sorry I could not be of more assistance.

  • Hi Evonne,I think the problem almost has to be with the tail-stock (I assume you are using it).

  • Hi Barry I want to use it to cut large wax. right now I cut large wax on my old machine. If the adjustable tail stock point is tightened in the chuck its centre of the chuck. But when I move the tail stock to the end of the bed it cuts off by about 1mm. I think the bed itself is off.

  • Evonne, as noted above you probably should reach out to the manufacturer of the mill for assistance. Its the only suggestion I can make at this point.
