Toolpath optimization

Working in Carveco Maker+ Version: 1.48 Build: 2023-11-20-1550-d05f8f97, I created a raised panel drawer front following Vernon Hinkle's CARVECO Maker+ PANEL DOOR TUTORIAL. The carve works perfect on my Onefinity Elite Foreman. However, the carve time is 29 minutes. On the long direction of the drawer fronts (16"), the toolpath moves left to right and efficiently removes material but when doing the short vertical sides (3") the toolpath runs the total length of the door carving each short side on the same path. I would like to carve the short vertical sides, one at a time, to avoid the lost time the path is taking to move across the drawer front from one short side to the other. Does anyone have a solution to help me? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Thomas Johnson,

Looking at your supplied drawer frt v2.art file, you've specified the Tolerance for both your Roughing and Finishing tool as 0.00004". Please adjust them both to the default value of 0.001".

Please watch the following demonstration video available from our Carveco Training portal: Toolpath Tolerance

In addition, you've specified the Home Z value as 0.25" and the Safe Z value as is 0.5". Please consider changing the Safe Z value to 0.2" and the Home Z value to 0.2", as this could further help to prevent the potential for losing steps in Z during machining.

Please watch the following demonstration video available from our Carveco Training portal: Safe Z and Home Positions

Once you've made these recommended changes, please re-calculate your Machine Relief toolpath named drawerfrtv2. This should reduce your machining time.

You may want to consider making further changes. Therefore, please watch the following demonstration video available from our Carveco Training portal: Machining Reliefs

Thanks for your time and consideration.
