Cutting sequence in simulation

Is there a way to control the sequence of the parts that are cut? I designed the project. Let just say 6 items top row  -  6 items 2nd row  -  3 items bottom row. When simulating it cuts 2 items on the bottom row  -  then 2 items on row 2  -  then 6 items on row 1  -  then 4 items on row 2 - then back down to the bottom row for the final item. I would like to have it cut 6 on row 1  -  6 on row 2  -  and 3 on the bottom row (or just the opposite). Is there any way to make this happen before generating the G-Code?  I know that when joining/merging shapes there is a dependency on the selection sequence that determines what happens in the execution.  That does not seem to be the case when creating a tool path.  Any ideas?

  • Ollie,

Try grabbing the first (top) ones run a toolpath, next do the same with the second (middle) group then do the same with the last (bottom) group. Now when you go to save the toolpaths combine them so it is one toolpath not three.

  • Mike:  That did the trick.  Another learning curve accomplished.  I think that although this is not something really necessary, in the long run it will save wear & tear on the equipment by it not having to jump all over the place the carve a simple project.

  • Ollie,

I understand, I do wish when the toolpaths run they would take the most economical moves, but they don't seem to, like when I run a 3d it goes to the furthest point away (really?? is my question) sometimes when I run a nested group of 2d it seems to bounce all over (again goes the question, REALLY?) but it gets it done so I stay busy doing other things.

  • Mike take the time once to create separate tool paths and put them in the order you want and try it.  Worked good for me and I am thinking about the long run and saving the wear and tear on the cnc.

  • I have done this when I have different models to cut out and I don't want to turn on the vacuum or or I'm running on both ends of the board and nothing in the middle or I want to be careful about bleed through's of the  vacuum and I'm running the same bit.

  • I am trying to drill holes like on cribbage board.  I set up separate paths for each line and then combined with save.  No matter what I do it seems I cannot control the direction from left to right then right to left.  Can anyone help on this please?

  • Hi Kenneth Eads,

You cannot specify the machining order for your toolpath in Carveco Maker; this is determined by the toolpath algorithm.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
