  • Are you talking about the model as it looks in Carveco 3D view or a finished looking piece of jewellery?

  • Evonne,

You can get "JING" from TechSmith. This has both movie and photo, I use the photo and send them to my phone and an I-pad so people can flip through them, if someone wants a copy (photo) of my model I email them a copy, after all models are cut out my daughter is a real good photographer so I get them real fast, and in great taste.

  • Mike, you do not need a 3rd party program for 3D views (photos) of the model, all you have to do is is go to, View>Save 3D View Image, and you can save a pic of the model as a reg picture (bmp, jpg, tiff) or as 3D pdf file. With this format you can rotate the model when its opened in a pdf viewer (Adobe Acrobat Reader for example - this is a free reader). The visual quality of this 3D pdf file leaves something to be desired though. Some adjustment on the part of the recipient is called for, specifically changing the lighting mode to "Headlamp" from "CAD Optimized Lights". Perhaps if you had the paid version of Adobe Acrobat you could adjust the lighting settings and then save these before sending the file to a customer but with the reader this is not possible. While the 3D pdf file is interesting I would suggest making 3 or 4 tif, bmp, or jpg images of the model and send these to the customer. The 3D pdf is more of a distraction than a benefit. Just my opinion of course.

We used to be able to convert the 3D view to a real world appearing object with shadows and all but that capability is gone. That's why I asked if Evonne wanted the pic and movie to look like they do in the 3D view or like a real world object.

EDIT: I have been playing with the 3D pdf file capability and if you create a mesh and save it as a 3D pdf file you get a much better quality image except it is blue. I wonder if Carveco developers could do something about this to enhance the use of the 3D pdf file capability, as it stands now it leaves much to be desired. Are you there Carveco Support staff or are we on our own in this forum.

  • I only know artcam 9. I had 3 day training in Atlanta on artcam 4 other than that I am self taught. I was a high school drop out because I have dyslexia. Even the name Carveco I saw as Corvico and called it that for weeks. As long as it was not text I could learn anything. Once I get the picture in my head I can go with it. My family called me MacGyver (for me Mcgiver). Some how I understood how things worked. Before becoming a jeweler I had a commercial class A boat masters license in the Bahamas. Looking at a chart I could run a course 32 miles with out a compass. Dont let anyone kid you Dyslexia is a bi--h. If it was not for the red line under misspelled words I could not type this. Dose and does are the same to me. I even came up with gadgets (I will post photos) to work Modelmaster mill. Mike and Cecliy came to Nassau to see some of them. Even made a jig that set the cutters at the same height so I did not have to keep setting z height when tool changes were needed.

Artcam 9 had an option to take as many photos as you wanted as it rotated. I just want a good presentation to send to a customer or load on a website. I never knew a better option existed till I started watching youtube to learn how the newer versions of artcam/carveco worked. So any info on this is greatly appreciated, Thank you very much for all you help.

  • Hi Evonne, as I said all you have to do is is  click on the "View" menu then click on "Save 3D View Image", and you can save a pic of the model as it appears in the 3D view. I have a copy of 9.1 on my PC but have never done what you are describing as taking as many pics as the model rotates. Most tools in AC have been kept as the program evolved so if you could do this in 9.1 you probably can do it in Carveco, you just have to figure out where it now resides. For example I had to find the Save 3D View Image command under View. I had been used to finding it under the Window menu which is where it exists in 9.1. Took me a while to discover its new home but its there.

If you need a video I will be happy to provide one for you, just let me know.

  • I know photos go to gallery but this one pertinent to this conversation. Look in project tools you will see a camera icon of a movie camera and the name movie. I would use this and windows movie maker to create movies to present to clients. I guess this option was taken out at some point

  • Very interesting Evonne, I have both version 9.1 and 2012 on my PC (I skipped the versions in between) and I see the movie icon in version 9 but cannot find it in 2012 so I guess it was dropped somewhere between the 2. I wonder if it was dropped because the 3D pdf file capability was added. Have you checked out this capability. It might work with your excellent render. I have never done renders so I am at a loss here in this respect. I bet it will work, just open the render and go to the menu item View and click on Save 3D View, then select the format as 3D pdf and you should be good to go as the 3D view is the render. The nice thing about the 3D pdf is that the customer can rotate the model as they see fit and stop the rotation whenever they wish to see one part of the model. If you try this let us know how it works out please.

By the way you are good to post this sort of pic in this thread. Its generally only stand alone pics of finished product that go in the gallery. Sort of a showcase of work thread rather than a problem solving thread.
